Exploring Innovative Ways to Hang Kitchen Towels: 5 Creative Choices

Sandor08/08/202328/11/2023

In nearly every kitchen, towels are essential for tasks ranging from drying hands and utensils to wiping up spills. If you don’t have a dedicated spot for your towels, the frustration of searching for one when needed can be all too familiar. Additionally, towels can serve as important fashion accessories, adding color and patterns to your kitchen.

Finding the right place to hang towels can not only save you a lot of hassle but also serve as a decorative element. However, discovering the perfect towel rack can be challenging, especially if your space is limited or lacks an ideal location for a towel bar. Here are five creative ideas for placing kitchen towels so they are readily available and look fantastic:

Appliance Handles
Hanging towels on oven doors allows you to easily utilize existing items and hang kitchen towels on any available appliance handle. This option is advantageous as it doesn’t require drilling screws into walls or cabinets to install a towel bar. You can implement this concept effortlessly in almost any kitchen. This strategy works best for handles at eye level, such as those on wall-mounted ovens. Hanging towels at a lower position may result in them dragging on the floor each time the appliance door is opened.

Concealed Towel Bar
If you’re someone who prefers not to have towels exposed, there are other options. A straightforward method is to install a towel bar on the back of cabinet doors. Most people choose to do this under the sink as it is a convenient location, where towels are often needed. You can also use pull-out towel bar devices for hanging multiple towels. Companies like Rev-A-Shelf offer devices suitable for both solutions, and these accessories are typically easy to install on your own.

Draped Towels
Particularly suitable for kitchens with apron-front farmhouse sinks, hanging towels in front of the sink can be a very practical way to display them. Towels hung in this manner remain wrinkle-free after drying and are easily accessible when needed. However, if wet towels are hung on wooden base cabinets, avoid this method, as moisture can soil painted cabinets or even damage the wood.

Exposed Towel Bar
For some kitchens or users, a towel bar beneath the sink or inside a cabinet may not be practical. Many towels are visually appealing, and it’s a shame to hide them away. This is why you might consider adding an exposed towel bar as part of your kitchen design. Exposing your towels also allows you to use attractive designer towels, serving as a great way to introduce color and patterns into your kitchen design. Don’t hesitate to consider towel bars designed for bathrooms. Towel bars come in various decorative styles and finishes that can complement your kitchen. However, be mindful that bathroom towel bars are typically designed for larger bath towels and may extend out 3 to 4 inches, which could be awkward in smaller kitchens. Nevertheless, if your countertop overhangs by 4 to 6 inches, this could be highly effective, especially on a kitchen island where a bathroom towel bar is ideal for storing all your kitchen towels.

Appliance Pulls
If you can’t spare space on your cabinets or in the aisles, appliance pulls can serve as towel bars. Appliance pulls are specialty handles designed for appliances, accommodating external panels that match your cabinet style. The advantage of these pulls is their longer length, ranging from 12 to 30 inches, compared to typical cabinet handles. They also extend farther from the cabinet, providing enough clearance for towels. With various lengths, finishes, and styles available, you are sure to find one that complements your kitchen design.
